With all these cold temperatures for a prolonged period, which is unusal for these days, I was wondering if we had anything in this country that could compare to the frozen Lakes of Central Europe in Winter where you can skate and have fun on a SAFE surface.
Whilst 'skating' the World Wide Web I stumbled across the Fenland Skating Championship which for many years ago was held on the Fenlands on a more regular basis.
This may have been one of the places where British Speed Skating and forms of Bandy Hockey gained popularity and developed.
Its lovely to see the local communities are keeping these fun pastimes alive and well in our changing environment.
