More Help Needed for Keyworth Skatepark, Nottingham

South Notinghamshire Village, Small Bendcrete Skatepark.

With all the trouble over the last few months, mainly beer bottles being smashed and the big litter problem at the skatepark, things may change for the worst as the small village Parish Council can not afford to keep cleaning up this dangerous and liable mess. As you know budgets are getting tight. They also pay ROSPA a large amount of money every year for safety checks, not sure if they really need this. I wonder if other parks have them inspecting every year.

There is a Skatepark Commitee which desparately needs new blood from people who actually use it regularly and have a interest in it's future.

This land is only rented off the BGS, so the agreement can be amended in a short time, so that it could be a lost spot.  I know this is only a small park with off the shelf ramps, but it is used a lot and I think people enjoy coming to a safe place to skate/ride.

We understand users may want a drink after a session, but slinging bottles on the grass for yobs to smash up later is not a good thing. It may be users or non users but things have got to get better or we could lose this little skate spot sooner than you think.

There is scope to extend the park, but no users have come forward to offer any help or organise anything. If no efort is made things will stay the same and get worse, it's no good saying you want more items down there, when people are not prepared to put the effort in and hopefully get more funding.

Some of these parks take years of planning to get ready to ride, I am sure other organisers can confirm this.

So if any local (ish) regular users are interested in getting involved and help keep it alive then email this blog.

For the younger ones, it would look good on their CV, they could show what they are involved in/managing it and what they have helped to achieved by developing the skatepark more.

Around 11th or 12th September down there, it seemed as there had been a party/Jam went off as approximately 75 bottle of cider and beer where either smashed in the grass, against the ramps and in the stream and hedges. We dont know if it was riders or locals going mad.

Narrow minded Joe Public will just see it as, ' typical Skater/bmx yobs.

I just hope this doesnt happen to all them new smooth and creative designed parks which are being built now and at long last.

I think more people need to be proactive in getting more skateparks, I know its a slog, but just look on the web now as see all these nice parks that are cropping up. Wishing for an indoor park is going to be harder as the rent and rates are killers for the size of space needed, unless you are very lucky to have Mount Hawk Skatepark in Cornwall.

Get motivated and do you bit for the fun activaties you like in life.

Micro Extension to Keyworth Skatepark, Nottingham

Anyone who uses Keyworth Skatepark in South Notts regular, are you interested in getting some ideas together to extend the rear of the park. This is subject to riders in general not wanting the trials area any more.

Keyworth Skatepark Micro Extension to Keyworth Skatepark, Nottingham

Keyworth Skatepark in South Nottinghamshire

There is approximately an area 14 x 17m available at the rear of the park, and possibly fill in the odd wasted dead spot here and there.  Making it more useable.

We all know funding can take for years, but you have to start somewhere, the local council has said get some plans drawn up so that they can pass them through ROSPA and so on before we waste time on planning an extend which will not be passed.

If you use the park regular and are interested in helping to get ideas together/funding/general helping out etc.

Please post a reply or idea's.

Keep these good parks coming and getting more imaginative!!

Possible New Skatepark at Rushcliffe Country Park, Nottingham

I was speaking to the guys at Rushcliffe Country Park today about skateparks, they have an old wooden mini ramp there at present. The location is great and there could be a possibility of upgrading it to a concrete one, if the demand was good enough.

Rushcliffe Country Park Mini Ramp and BMX Track

I know its all down to funding, but the Park Manager may be up for gaining funding if a petition or interest is generated for this idea.

We may be pissing in the wind, but its worth a go, especially as skating and BMXing is here to stay.

For the older riders with a family it is somewhere you could skate and watch your kids on the great park opposite. The older skaters could even note down the Steam Engine numbers whilst they were having a rest !!.

Please check out Rushcliffe Borough Council website for the location and contact details, as you may want to express or suggest it would be a great idea and would be used regular if built to the users requirements.
