Our Team are showing off their small section of Old School BMX's from the 1980's. Don't know about you out there but we still love the Chrome look and it seems like its making a bit of a come back.

Puch Track Invader 1983 (Challenger Pro)

1983 Puch Track Invader Frame & Forks

Puch were the first BMX manufacturer to produce a Economy range of BMX's with the help of Murray, known as the Puch Murray Series. However this range had a lot of faults the replacement of the parts cost them dearly. Puch took time to release this race ready machine which overall got good reviews however it was not one of the most common and popular BMX's in the UK.

100% Cro-moly TIG Welded Frame and Forks.

We have a 1984 GT Performer coming on soon however I think it has the incorrect year Decals on it. We need to find out the correct year from the Serial Number at some point.

Nottingham’s Infamous BroadMarsh Banks Flattened

Nottingham's Legendary Skate and BMX Spot, Broadmarsh Banks has be wiped off the face of the earth.

These were located at the back of the BroadMarsh Bus Station, nicely tucked away in a nice central location.

Were the main users consulted and how it would effect our long established groups, and the Council want more people to be active in their leisure time.

Wasn't these humps an Architural Art Form where people could expressed themselves on. We happened to use skateboards and BMX's as our tools and the Humps were our canvas.

This has been a great skate spot since the 1970's and later the BMXers used them from the early 1980's. Riders have travelled from a far to rider these unique humps and lines.

One of the 1970's better and useful Art forms which should have remained and been incorporated into a modern scheme.

Chrome on the Come Back, Timeless Finish

Being from the 1980's generation of BMXers I grow up with Chrome Frame and Forks, so we have always had a soft spot for this finish on a frame and forks.

This era of frame finishes seem to be in product from the early 1980's to the mid early 1990's, then slowly paint finishes came in, not sure if this coincided with manufacturing moving more to the Far East or to try promoting fresh looks in to selling the bikes (which is understandable to survive in the down turns). well over the last decade bikes have been finished in staggering amount of colours and effects to keep people interested.

Slowly but surely over the last year or so we have noticed Chrome frame and forks showing up in Bike Shows and in the shops. Maybe this is because the Old School BMX scene has gone from strength to strenght and crazy money is being paid for original old school BMX Bikes and parts through Ebay for example.

Milton Keynes Old School Meet & Race Weekend 2009

You get Old School Racers, Meets and hundred of enthusiastic collectors who have more than a couple of bmx bikes in their collection.

I have read the Chrome plating process in more expensive than a paint job and may weigh a fraction which could put off all thoughs riders who are hooks on keeping the weight down (Their bikes that is !) however I dont think the extra weigh is negligible.

One good thing about chrome is it very hard wearing and hard to scratch.

Personally I think the Chrome looks timeless now and should be a regular finish if the demand is there, and hopefully it will be and may get some old boys actually riding again.
